We arrive in Paris

The trip today was our last in the Peugeot, a transfer from Blere to Paris.

The journey was initially through some beautiful countryside in the Loire Valley (a place we could come back to without hesitation) before joining the A10 for the remainder of the way.

Arrived on the outskirts of Paris around midday and had to place all of our faith in Mrs GPS to get us to 13 Rue de Crussol in the 11th arrondissement adjacent to the 3rd - she did not let us down

Paris is nothing like we remembered from our visit some years ago as on that occasion all our travel within the city was by Metro under the ground whereas today we drove through the city - perhaps drove is not the right word, we crawled and nudged our way through the city giving way to everything that moved and making way for those who seemed to have a death wish!

Found some street side parking about 300m from the apartment and with the help of a store keeper paid the appropriate parking fee in the meter using her pre-paid card, nothing else being acceptable.

Arnaud one of the apartment owners was on site cleaning following the departure of the previous holidaymakers so we were given access around 1.30pm.

We have found ourselves a delightful 2 level apartment with all facilities in a lively area of the city.

From the street things look a bit ordinary but once through the large streetside door it opens up and the apartment is presented with some French flair!

The next problem was returning the vehicle which required a 12km movement across Paris to an area just past La Defense.

Some significant street works in the La Defense area gave Mrs GPS some difficult moments and us palpitations but between the 3 of us we got there and handed over the keys.

I also presented our well documented claim form for the scrap down the side gained in Genoa but the Peugeot Sodexa representative took one look at and said it was nothing and the car was fine - he signed the paperwork off so it is now his problem (we hope).

Some facts:
  • we drove 4459 kms across Italy, France, Spain & Andorra
  • we paid an average of 1.40 euros per litre of diesel
  • the car consumed on average 5.8455 litres/100km
  • we paid 222.53 euros in tolls

We walked back to La Defense a very impressive area to catch the metro and I regretted not having the camera with me.

After catching the metro and changing lines once we arrived back at Oberkampf being the area we are staying.

The supermarket was found and we stocked up on the necessities for our next 2 days in Paris.

The next big decision is which restaurant to go to tonight as there are many, too many to count, in close proximity - if only all life's decisions were so simply!

Bon soir mon amies
