God damn it!

An uneventful drive from Toulouse to Limoges this morning though it was through some very beautiful countryside.

As we couldn't check in until 3pm we parked old faithful in the city centre and went walk about firstly to get some lunch and then to have a look at Limoges.

Limoges which was founded by the Romans around 10BC is the administrative capital of the Limousin region in west-central France and is well known for its porcelain.

Perhaps its most famous resident was Renoir who was born here in 1841.

It is generally a tidy well laid out city (doggy doo excepted) with a pedestrian only precinct that houses the shopping area and it has to be said that there are some very nice shops, if that is something you enjoy.
Just like Wellington it runs trolley buses through the central city but they also extend out to the suburbs without the poles being up so they must either have stored power to run the motor or be hybrids.
We also visited the Eglise Saint-Pierre, an old cathedral - it has to be said that the French do not seem to do cathedrals in the same manner as the Italians - though this one had some very nice stained glass.

There was also another small church, built in 1427, which we poked our noses into.
There are some quite different building frontages in the historic area of the city.
The god damn it moment came when we booked into the hotel - one of our criteria for accommodation was air conditioning but alas apart from the opportunity to open 2 windows facing onto a busy street this one does not have any - have no idea how we made that mistake as with the high 20 degrees temperatures coupled with very high humidity it was really a must have.

We enjoyed a very tasty Moroccan dinner in the town tonight - couscous, lamb, meat balls, vegetables, prunes, raisins, olives etc. - so much so that we may try to seek out another similar restaurant before we leave France (which is on Sunday).

Bon soir mon amies
