We went to the playground today...

...of the rich and we assume famous, Monaco.

It was another Wow.

The Principality reminds one of Singapore for its cleanliness and from what we could see strict adherence to public policy even to the point of seeing a Police Officer (or some one in similar authority) tell a mature couple of tourists not to walk on the road and to cross on a pedestrian crossing.

The first stop on our walking tour was the Palais Princier the home of the current monarch Prince Albert II.

The House of Grimaldi has ruled Monaco since 1297 and there are references galore to the Grimaldis throughout the 2 sq km that make up the total area.

Equally prominent throughout is reference to Formula 1 as Monaco host an annual race on that circuit.

Many tourists were in town today but unlike many other cities we have been to the tourist/souvenier stalls did not detract from the sites.

Monaco is blessed with a beautiful Cathedral which faces out to the Mediterrean.

Nearby is the Musee Oceanographique et Aquarium which enjoys a prime location in the area of the Palais.

The homes/mansions in this area are simply stunning.

As we walked back down to the town proper there were magnificent views over the boat harbour which contained "yachts" of various sizes - from large to massive.

Lunch on the waterfront was pleasantly interrupted by a text from home advising that the Warriors had enjoyed success.

A walk up the Avenue Monte Carlo brought into view not only the Monte Carlo Casino but fabulous buildings housing the Hermitage Hotel and Hotel De Paris, outside of which was a row of cars of great value, Bentley, Jaguar, Audi, BMW, Rolls etc.

Casino
The views from the park in front of the casino are superb.

It was  onto a bus for the ride back to Nice, a journey that took around 50mins - 1 hour but the ticket only cost 1 euro each i.e. less than $2. Now where in NZ can you take public transport for that length of time and only pay $2!!

All in all another 30 degree day enjoyed immensely
