Dubai

After 19 or so hours as guests of Emirates airlines we finally arrived in Dubai at 5.15am this morning.

No arrival card required, bags in the first 10 or so on the carousel and we found a taxi and made our way to the apartment arriving around 6am.

Some issues at check-in, perhaps the main one being that our Amex card doesn't work at least here in Dubai but we got access to the apartment.
A very nice 1 bedroom apartment well appointed with a large living area set in an area of the city that is under development, though it would seem that the whole of Dubai is under development.

A couple of hours sleep and we were picked up by Dave who gave us an afternoon tour around the city area sighting the Burj Khalifa and out to the coast to have a look at the Palms and the Burj Al Arab.

All impressive in their own way but expensive monuments to some one.

Initial impressions of Dubai is of a very hot place with large buildings, a motorway system (I suspect to the locals it is only the normal suburban streets) that Aucklanders would die for but a city under a haze and without a lot of colour.

Tomorrow we take in more of what is on offer in the way of the Dubai Mall & The Mall of the Emirates said to be the largest and second largest retail malls in the world!
